Terry Winters
Born in Brooklyn in 1949, Winters studied art at the Pratt Institute in New York. A postmodern abstractionist with a strong interest in the nature of painting itself, he studied the origin of pigments and made botanical studies. His early paintings were monochromatic and minimalist, but he began using botanical and astronomical forms in his work, developing a style of loosely painted grids of organic shapes. His later paintings draw upon everything from medical photographs to computer graphics to create a densely layered web of abstract space. He currently lives in New York and Geneva.
