Join Paris Review Daily contributor Sam Stephenson and the photographer Eugene Richards for a conversation, moderated by Arezoo Moseni, at the New York Public Library.
They will discuss tensions and overlaps of art and journalism, as well as their new books: Stephenson’s Gene Smith’s Sink, a book about the legendary photographer W. Eugene Smith, and Richards’s first career retrospective, the photobook The Run-On of Time.
Sam Stephenson is the author of Dream Street: W. Eugene Smith’s Pittsburgh Project and The Jazz Loft Project: Photographs and Tapes of W. Eugene Smith from 821 Sixth Avenue, 1957–1965. Read his Daily pieces here.
Eugene Richards is a documentary photographer known for his powerful, unflinching exploration of contemporary social issues from the early 1970s to the present. The Run-On of Time is the first comprehensive and critical look at Richards’s lifelong achievements.
